For Saturday evening:

Missale Romanum [not the complete text]:

Amen.
May peace find you this day, tomorrow and henceforth every day.

For Sunday morning:

Jesus the Christ is Risen!

From the Missale Romanum:

The power of this holy night dispels all evil, washes guilt away, restores lost innocence, brings mourners joy; it casts out hatred, brings us peace, and humbles earthly pride. Night truly blessed when heaven is wedded to earth and man is reconciled with God! Christ, that Morning Star, who came back from the dead, and shed his peaceful light on all mankind, your Son, who lives and reigns for ever and ever.

To all out there, have a peaceful night and rest assured all good things will come to those with good hearts. This blog now signs off until tomorrow.

  1. Thank you from Sicily, James. I found that quite beautiful and uplifting. Buona Pasqua di nuovo.

  2. The first time I heard the "[Христос воскресе!] Воистину воскресе!" thing was in Moscow in 1987. It was at the cathedral and was one of the first religious services that Gorbachev allowed to be broadcast on TV as a part of glasnost.

I've often wondered whether 20 years later the place is as packed as it was then or whether religion has lost its grip as a method of protest in Russia.

  3. Interesting that you wonder this, L'Ombre, as I'm just ready to post on this. Checking my comments first.

It's very big now. The further away from the faith families get [and this is becoming very western in nature now], the more others, in reaction, including many young people, flock to things like midnight serices and so on. Very, very uplifting. It's for all, just as the Hallelujah chorus is for all.

Welshcakes - it must be a wonderful thing to behold over there, the home of it all. Buona Pasqua di nuovo.

There are times when life is simply precious and wonderful.
